Engagement Ring Questions
How much should I spend on an engagement ring?
There is no fixed rule. The traditional idea of spending a set number of months’ salary is outdated; the right budget is one that feels comfortable for you while allowing you to prioritise the qualities that matter most.
What if I don’t know the correct ring size?
Do not let an uncertain size prevent you from choosing a ring. Many engagement rings can be resized, although the amount of adjustment possible depends on the design, setting and metal. Resizing is one of the most commonly asked engagement-ring questions online.
Does every piece of jewellery require a hallmark?
No. Statutory exemption weights apply, and certain other exemptions exist under the Hallmarking Act.
Can I personalise an existing engagement ring design?
Yes. An existing design can often be adapted through your choice of diamond, metal, proportions and certain setting details. For something entirely individual, a bespoke commission can be created from the initial idea through to the finished ring.
What are the 4Cs of a diamond?
The 4Cs are cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. Together they describe a diamond’s quality and help explain why stones of a similar size can vary considerably in appearance and value.
How long does it take to create an engagement ring?
Timing depends on whether you are choosing an existing design, personalising a setting or commissioning something completely bespoke. It is always worth allowing sufficient time before a planned proposal, particularly where a ring is being individually made.
