Understanding
Diamond Certification

A diamond certificate is more than a document - it’s an independent promise of authenticity, quality and trust. Here’s what you need to know.

What is a Diamond Certificate?

A diamond certificate, also known as a grading report, is issued by an independent gemological laboratory. It details the diamond’s characteristics using the 4Cs: Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat Weight, along with other important information unique to that stone.

Independent

Issued by trusted gemological laboratories with no vested interest in the diamond.

Detailed

Provides an objective assessment of the diamond’s unique characteristics.

Reassuring

Confirms authenticity and quality, giving you confidence in your choice.

Transparent

Helps you compare diamonds like-for-like when making an informed decision.

The Leading Gemological Laboratories

We work with the world’s most respected laboratories, each with a long standing reputation for integrity, consistency and expertise.

What Does a Diamond Certificate Include?

While the layout may vary between laboratories, most certificates include:

Natural or lab-grown origin check
Shape and cutting style
Measurements
Carat weight
Colour grade
Clarity grade
Cut grade
Polish, symmetry and fluorescence
Plot diagram showing inclusions
A unique report number

Where applicable, the report number may also be laser-inscribed on the diamond’s girdle, allowing the stone to be matched to its certificate.

Beyond the Certificate

A grading report provides the facts. Selecting an exceptional diamond requires something more — understanding how those characteristics come together in the individual stone.

This is where experience matters.
